museum Library
The Museum’s historical-medical library is
made up of donations and acquisitions carried out by the
institution, constituting a bibliographic fund of more than
3,000 volumes. They are works related to the practice of
medicine, the history of medicine, scientific museology,
and also an important array of scientific and medical journals,
both Catalan and international.
The library is one of the basic support and accessory tools
for the collection of scientific instruments of the Museum.
Books and journals, as means of communication and often
of scientific divulgation, became the professional key,
together with the instruments, for the development of medicine.
The collection includes historical works from the 17th through
the 20th centuries. The preservation of this heritage yields
a material of great value both for the research on the history
of medicine and the documentation of the Museum’s
scientific instruments. The bibliographic fund of the Museum
is also used as a resource for exhibitions and collaborations.
This material is rounded off with a rich collection of catalogues
of scientific instruments from the end of the 19th century
and the 20th century, an array of bibliographic resources
available for researchers.
