visual anatomical exploration
The observation of inner injuries meant the opening of a new
window of anatomical clinical indications from the creation
of the ophthalmoscope and the laryngoscope. By means of endoscopies,
the exploration of the rest of natural anatomical orifices
was gradually achieved.
The Museum collection allows following the evolution of instrumental
semiology since the middle of the 19th Century, attending
to the technical evolution of vaginal specula, as well as
devices used for the graphic registration of inner injuries
in their surgical interventions.
The collection also gives an account of the big leap forward
meant by the discovery of X-rays as a means of diagnosis,
as well as the technical evolution of the obtained plates.
A technique that was not completed until the second half of
the 20th Century, through diagnosis application of ultrasonography
and exploratory surgical interventions, also gathered at the
Museum.
