It was along the second half of the 19th Century, when the thermometer became an accurate measurement engine on the quantifying of organic phenomena, increasingly undertaken among physicians, though questioning the subjectivity of the concept “fever”.

Fundamental technological changes took place at the end of that century due to a technical modification –the strangulation of the mercury tray-, which allowed the size reduction of the thermometer –from 25-30 cm to 7-14 cm-, the decrease of the time to ascertain the patient’s temperature –from 20 to 5 minutes-, and the constant reading of the temperature on the scale to avoid the quick drop of the mercury due to the breaking of the thread as a result of the compression generated.

That is, the conditions of comfort and reliability needed to proceed to the industrial manufacturing of the instrument
